Good at many things… Great at none. Until now!

I know the title of this may seem a bit negative but really it isn’t! I have finally found that one thing at which I know I can be Great!
Running Limitless

I have always been one of those people that has had to try really hard at everything I do if I wanted to do well. I was never that person in school that just got good grades and passed tests without studying. {Those people always really irritated me, not for any good reason but because it never came easy to me like that}

There are people in this world that have some extraordinary talent or skill or something that they are Great at and Excel in. Then there are those that are just Good at many things but not necessarily Great at any one thing! That was me. I worked so hard to do well at everything I set my mind to that I think I spread myself too thin and never was able to focus on just one thing that I could Excel in. Maybe that’s because I just always wanted to do well in all that I tried to or because I never found that one thing that I just loved so much that the other things didn’t matter.

Until Now!!

Next to being a Mother & Wife, Running has been one of the best things I have found!
I am in love with Running and what it brings me. I have never found something that I have been so passionate about in my 32 years. That’s not to say it isn’t challenging and difficult at times because trust me IT IS! I have to work very hard at my training to progress to the paces I am currently running. I have a very long way to go to get to the place I want to be but I am 110% for the training and journey!

I have always been one to set extremely lofty goals for myself. However, I have always achieved what I set my mind to. This will be no different with my Running Goals! I am fully aware of the time it might take to get there but am so excited to work for it all!!

If there is something out there that you want badly enough you have to reach for it and make it happen. I found that putting it out there makes it all more real for me. If I just think about it and don’t do any more then it is much harder to accomplish those Goals.

I have never been a super confident person in what I do so I make sure to surround myself with people who help to lift me up and inspire me to give it all I can. My family has been my biggest supporter and without them I wouldn’t be where I am. I have also brought on a Running Coach who has given me a lot to work with and has pushed me when I probably wouldn’t push myself. Lastly, running friends are invaluable! I have a few amazing girls that live in my neighborhood that also run and that have made Running even more incredible. Especially on those days when I’m just not feeling 100%.

After watching the Boston Marathon I was even more inspired to Run the best I can and to push through anything that may be limiting me. I can’t even begin to fathom running at speeds like Rita Jeptoo or Shalane Flanagan, but I hope to one day come close!

Don’t let anything stand in the way of your dreams and goals! You are the only one that can make them come true!

Is there something you feel that you are just Great at?

What goals have you set for yourself that you are currently working towards?

Well, I have never known you to give anything less than your best and your Dad and I were the same when it came to tests!! Study, study, study but that’s okay; at least we all did it just like you!!!

Setting goals is great but following through is the BEST! That’s what you have been doing! I’ve never seen you ever be more confident and more dedicated to any one thing than you are to running (except for the kids)! I never thought I would see my “sleep lover” get up at 5 am to go on a run with one of her running buddies!! Way to go Lacy!!!

Keep up the good work!!! You are truly dedicated to many things that I don’t think you see!!
    Love you so much,
    Mom

I was the same way in school and was the same way with my certification, when they said it would take 3-6 months to study for I knew I was going to be on the more on the 6 month end.

And now I’m the same way as you with running. Granted, running and I did not get along in the beginning, but I love that there’s that seemingly endless possibility of progress. There’s always something to work towards and new goals to be set. And I completely agree with you about the running community. It’s easy to have those big goals, but to put them out there in the open can be scary sometimes, but as I’ve seen other people do it, it’s inspired me to as well. I’m glad you realize that you’re not just good at this, but great! You’re continually making progress in your times and more than that believing you can achieve big goals, which is sometimes the hardest thing. I’m excited to continue following your running journey and maybe one day we’ll be in the same race and next to some of those big names :)

Thank you so much Hailey. I have loved following along with your running as well and you have truly been an inspiration to me. Running is still a lot like school to me, I have to try hard but unlike how I felt in school I actually feel like I have this. Maybe not this year or next but it will come. You are so right about big goals! They are the hardest to believe in but if they aren’t bit then to me there is no challenge to get better. Hope to be racing with you one day too and you never know, maybe next to some big names too!

Love this post Lacy and I can relate to it in so many ways. You and I would have been good buds in high school because it sounds like we have always been very similar … take the road less traveled … always do what is right, not what is easy (even when that is really hard). I’m so proud of all you have accomplished in your running and can’t wait to see the incredible things you will do this year and in the years to come. xoxo

Yes, definitely take the road less traveled! Thank you so much! You have been a huge source of support and I’m so glad to have met you. I can’t wait to see all that you do and I’m so excited that you will be chasing down that BQ! You will get there sooner than you think. Hopefully we can run another of the same race sometime soon, if the heat & humidity don’t kill me first! :)
